The Schlappen boas are 2 yards (6 ft) long, and approx 8-10" diameter. This natural boa is made from iridescent bronze schlappen feathers located at the base of the tail of the Rooster. Schlappen feathers are soft and flexible, but wider than the saddle feathers, and the stem is thinner than coque feathers giving it more of a drooping effect.

The feathers are dyed black over the natural material giving the boa an iridescent shine.

Schlappen boas can be cut with wire cutters without unraveling as feathers are sewn onto a nylon cord and cotton-covered wire. This cotton-covered wire helps the boa keep its shape and not come untwisted, which enables it to be used as a "Rental" boa..
